Snowy Owl, taken in Ft. Edward, NY winter 2008/2009
Snowy Owls normally live in the frozen tundra of the artic and upper Canada, but sometimes when food supplies are scarce in their normall feding grounds they move south looking for supplies and we here in the upper US states are the beneficieries of this southward movement. When they do move south, you won't find thiese beauties in a woods but rather near wide open fields which resemble their home territories. This makes them relatively easy to find when they enter our areas.
